Sunday Science: Why Does Wine Cry?

Good Sunday morning, readers!

I stumbled across a really cool little YouTube video that I wanted to share with you all on this fine morning (thanks for the find, Tarık Cengiz!).

Many of you have heard of “wine tears” or “legs”, right?  Well, what exactly causes this phenomenon? How do the legs form?  Why does wine cry?

See for yourself in this 5 minute video here:

Does this video raise any more questions for you about this process?  Feel free to ask away and I’ll see what I can dig up!

Short answer: You would cry too if someone

    . . . pressed

    . . . stomped

    . . . crushed

. . . or tried to suffocate you in carbon dioxide via carbonic maceration.

That’s got to be a traumatic experience.

Grapes have f-e-e-l-i-n-g-s, ya’ know !
