The Academic Wino Selected As the 2015 Best Overall Wine Blog of the Year

WBA-Winner-Logo-(overall)-2015-lrgIf you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or have been following the outcome of the 2015 Wine Blog Awards, you already know that The Academic Wino was selected to be the 2015 Best Overall Wine Blog!  (If you’re not following me on social media, click on the links above and follow/”like” away!).

Thanks to every single one of you who has followed me either over the past four years or maybe the past four minutes–without you, I wouldn’t have an audience and would not have had the opportunity to be honored with this amazing award. I am completely humbled and honestly, still a little in shock over receiving the honor.

I suppose I owe a big part of my success to my husband, Jacob, for it was because of him that I got the idea to start this blog in the first place!  My admiration for science has always been a part of me since I was a little girl playing in the forests of northern Vermont, and my love of wine developed concurrently with my graduate studies at the University of Virginia, and Jacob encouraged and supported my decision to start a blog marrying the two together, to further educate not only myself, but others as well in the art and science of enology and viticulture and how it relates to the environment and public health.

Up until that point, I had struggled with finding my true passion, and now, after having years of experience under my belt, I can say with utmost confidence that writing wine science and ultimately relating that to the bigger picture is what I love to do the most.

If you’re new at writing or blogging and you find yourself frustrated:  it’s OK!  Find what makes you happiest and just do it.  I will be honest, it may take a while, but when you find it, grab onto it and don’t let go.  Make it yours.

I just want to say “THANK YOU!’ again to all my readers out there, all of you that voted in the public voting session, and to the judges for this years’ competition.

I find myself at a loss for words at the moment, so I’ll just say “thank you, thank you, thank you” from the bottom of my heart!

“Never stop asking questions.

Never stop learning.

Be kind.  Be happy.  Drink wine (responsibly).”
