Happy 7th Blogiversary, The Academic Wino!

On June 8th, 2011, The Academic Wino was born! Happy Blogiversary to me!

7 years? How did that even happen? It’s been a long, fabulous journey, one which I hope will continue for at least another 7 years!

First, some quick social media stats:

  • 1 Year Blogiversary: About 1000 Twitter followers, and unsure of the number of Facebook “likes”.
  • 2 Year Blogiversary: 2,738 Twitter followers and 488 “likes” on Facebook.
  • 3 Year Blogiversary: 5,556 Twitter followers and 1304 Facebook “likes”.
  • 4 Year Blogiversary: 9,767 Twitter followers and 1742 Facebook “likes”.
  • 5 Year Blogiversary: 15,403 Twitter followers and 1945 Facebook “likes”.
  • 6 Year Blogiversary: 17,808 Twitter followers and 2014 Facebook “likes”.

Great work on the social media, folks!  Let’s try to keep the momentum going!  Find The Academic Wino on various social media platforms here:

Professional Highlights During the Past Year

I continue to write not only for this blog, but also freelance for various wine-related publications.  Many of my freelance pieces have been written for The Alcohol Professor (find those articles here), though this year I made my debut over at Spirited Biz Magazine (find that article here).

The Academic Wino also won Runner Up Best Wine Blog in the 2017 Drizly Blogger Awards, second to the fabulously talented Cindy Rynning at Grape Experiences.

I was also thrilled to be named on the Social Vignerons 2018 Top 40+ Wine Influencers list this year.  A great honor to be named alongside so many other influencers in the world of wine (find that list here).

In the past year, I was also attended press trips to Diam in Bordeaux, France (article here), as well as wine region DO Montsant, Spain (Catalonia) (articles 1,2,3 from DO Montsant).  I am always thankful for these opportunities to travel all over the globe to experience different wine regions and the like, and hope to continue to do so throughout the years.

I am still Editor at Wine Industry Insight, where I am responsible for curating the news links for the daily News Fetch. The Wine Industry Insight Daily NewsFetch is free to subscribe, so if you’re not already getting this daily news brief, sign up by clicking here. If you are interested in finding information on and/or subscribing to the premium content on that site, you may do so by clicking here: Wine Executive News Premium Subscriptions.

Finally, as always, I am available for freelance wine writing assignmentsso if you’re interested in working with me, please send email me at becca@academicwino.com.

Personal Highlights During the Past Year

In addition to all the professional goings-on of my life, along with my husband, I have also been continuing to care for and raise my son, who is now almost a two and a half years old. He’s very happy, healthy, and is just non-stop go go go! He is obsessed with sports,

particularly any sport that involves a ball of sorts (which, I suppose, is most of them), construction equipment, and hiking with mommy and daddy in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado (he’s a true Colorado native!).

For now, because of this work/life balance, I am still posting every 2 weeks.  Ideally, I’d post every week, but that’s probably not going to be in the cards any time soon.  Eventually posts will become more frequent, but for now, please enjoy new posts every other week.

To Wrap Up….

Thank you again to every single one of you who have supported me in one way or another as without you, The Academic Wino is just another blip in the matrix.

Never stop asking questions.

Never stop learning.

Be kind.  Be happy.  Drink wine.

Thank you….
