Where in the World is The Academic Wino? — A Brief Update

Hello readers!

Some of you may have been wondering why I haven’t posted anything in quite some time….well, my priorities have temporarily shifted!

In a nutshell, my husband received a job offer we couldn’t refuse, which required us to pack up and move across country in a relatively short amount of time. Ever since he received the offer, I have been spending nearly every waking hour either packing the house, and/or trying to keep our two very young children alive and [relatively] happy! That has left zero time for blogging or any sort of writing for that matter.

After packing up the house and doing everything I could to prep our Colorado home to go on the market, the movers finally came and we all — husband, toddler, baby, dog, and cat — loaded up in one of our cars (we shipped our other car so we could all be together) for the long journey to our new home in North Carolina.

Last meal in our CO home (yes, that’s wine in the La Croix can….movers took all my glasses)

We took 7 days to make the journey, with stops to visit both of sets of grandparents along the way. It made the journey a few hundred miles longer than if we drove straight through, but it was more than worth it to take breaks from driving every few days.

2,100+ miles later, we finally landed in our temporary furnished apartment here in the Raleigh area of North Carolina! The next day after our arrival, we went balls-to-the-wall house hunting with a realtor with whom we had been in contact, and the next day we put an offer in on a house we really loved. We lucked out yet again, with the sellers accepting our offer (well, after a counter offer that we were fine with)! Now begins the month-long inspections/legal mumbojumbo/whathaveyou prior to closing at the end of October. Then, we’ll finally call the movers who are holding our belongings hostage to have them deliver the goods to our new permanent home in late October/early November.

So, in the next month, I hope to write at least one blog post, though now that you understand what I’ve been up to recently, hopefully you’ll forgive me if I go into radio silence once again during this time. I will try my best to write a post, but please understand my priorities lie right now with keeping my little boys happy and healthy, and getting things ready to move into our new permanent home in the next month and a half or so (while attempting to manage the prep and sale of our Colorado home which should be on the market soon if not already by the time you read this).

Our pets were mildly concerned, though quickly accepted their life-on-the-road fate.

I’m excited that in our new home, there is a dedicated room that we will have for an office—-not just me working from my dining room table! So excited! I’ll then be able to ramp things up a bit and get back on my semi-regular blogging schedule, as well as catch up on the freelance articles I’ve had to put on the back burner during this busy time.

The Academic Wino is alive and well, just taking a temporary hiatus while I move my family across country to our new home in Raleigh, NC.

I deeply appreciate your patience during this brief radio silence, and if you ever wish to write a guest post for me, now is a great time to do it. 😉 Just email me at becca@academicwino.com if you have an article idea you’d like to toss my way.

7 days later, we made it to North Carolina!

NOTE to PR folks in NC— please reach out to me! I’d love to get on your mailing lists for the goings-on in this region of the country!
