The Academic Wino Shortlisted for a 2019 Born Digital Wine Award

Greetings from my home in Wake County, North Carolina, where we’re about to be under a stay-at-home order (which unfortunately many of you are already experiencing)! Working from home is nothing new to me — it’s all I do — but it’s been an adjustment for my husband (who will no longer be able to work in his lab after the mandate takes effect) and my kids (who had been attending daycare/preschool 3x/week up until recently). I suppose it’s been an adjustment for me as well, even though I work from home, I don’t usually work with this many distractions! In fact, I can’t really do much writing while the boys are home with me, as I have to put most of my focus on taking care of them and giving them some semblance of an education.

Our inconveniences pale in comparison to everything else going on in the world, and my thoughts are very frequently with those on the front lines of this COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the doctors, nurses, first responders, grocery store workers, truckers, and all others essential to making our daily lives as comfortable as they can be during this trying time. Thank you thank you thank you, a million times thank you for all you do.

Amidst all this chaos, a bit of excitement hit my inbox late the other night —

One of my articles has been shortlisted for a Born Digital Wine Award!

2019 Born Digital Wine Awards shortlist

Specifically, the article: “The Effects of Mandatory Wine Label Nutritional and Ingredient Information on Purchase Behavior“, has been shortlisted for the Best Editorial/Opinion Wine Writing in the 2019 Born Digital Wine Awards!

My 1-year-old thought it was hilarious when I squawked out loud upon receiving that email.

I am honored to have made the shortlist for a Born Digital Wine Award and humbled to be listed alongside many talented wine writers who I have admired for quite some time.

Here is the full shortlist for the Best Editorial/Opinion Wine Writing category for the 2019 Born Digital Wine Awards plus links to the articles for your reading pleasure:

My deepest thanks to the judges who chose my article for this year’s Born Digital Wine Award shortlist, and I wish all my colleagues and friends listed above the best of luck in the competition!

Stay well, everyone…..and stay home and at least 6 feet away from other people if you must leave the house 🙂

Cheers!
